How to do it all

Hi Mama 🤎

I took last week off from sending an email. I hope that's okay!

You see, we branded the calves last weekend and had company around and even did a few fun things like fishing and hiking so instead of burning the midnight oil trying to write an email (these things take longer than they should for me), I decided just to rest and get some sleep after the busy weekend.

Old me would have gotten that email done no matter how long it took to write or how late I stayed up.

Old me would have put something like sending an email before the priorities that really mattered like getting rest and not worrying about it.

New me knows that even though this community I've built is important to me, it can't come before my health.

New me knows that it's okay not to be perfect and do everything just right.

New me knows that sending or not sending one weekly email isn't going to make or break me.

It's taken a while for "old me" to get to "new me" but I'm really proud of the progress I've made.

While the above example is just about sending/not sending an email, maybe you've experience something similar in your life?

Stick with me here...

As farm and ranch moms, we balance a lot of responsibilities: kids, farm/ranch chores, house chores, meals, appointments, lists, etc. I could literally go on and on about all the things we're expected to "balance".

Think about all of the things you are trying to balance.

Now I'm going to ask you a question: are they glass balls or rubber balls?

Glass balls are the things that are top priority to you in your life: kids, husband, job, family, health, etc. Glass balls are the things in your life that CANNOT BE DROPPED. If you drop the ball on these things, they will break. So think about the things that are most important to you and consider those glass balls.

Rubber balls are things that are still important to you but not to the point where your life will fall apart if you drop them. For me, these things are appointments that can be rescheduled, optional activities, an email that can wait, a weedy garden, things that I feel like I "should" do but don't "need" to do, etc. The rubber balls are the things you can drop or set down for a time without breaking.

In the above example...

Glass ball: my health and self-care

Rubber ball: not sending one weekly email in 3 months

One of the things I hear the most from farm and ranch moms is that they struggle to "balance" all the things. I've also been asked so many times "How do you do it all?"

Well, this is how I do it all... I DON'T!

No one does.

Glass balls and rubber balls, folks. That's how it gets done. And sometimes, some of those pesky rubber balls I set down roll away and I just take that as a sign that it wasn't meant for me right now. 😅

I hope this was helpful. Email me back and let me know if this is something you could see yourself doing when you feel overwhelmed!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and it's my mission to not only talk more about mental health awareness for farm and ranch moms but also to bring you tools and encouragement this month.

Part of that mission includes this month's t-shirt launch!

They're all beautifully designed to encourage you on your journey and I've included a bible verse on each design. I've included all 3 designs below 👇🏼 Check them out!

Romans 5: 3-4: Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance perseverance, character; and character, hope.

1 Thessalonians 5:11: Therefore, encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

Psalm 1:3: That person is like a tree planted by steams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither--whatever they do prospers.

Okay, I've got to know what you think of the new designs and which one you've got your eye on! Eeekkk, I'm so excited!

Hit reply and let me know!

Hey! I want to take a moment to introduce myself—and the incredible woman joining me to help lead the Soul Strength Retreat: A Retreat for Women of the Land. Hi! I'm Jesse-born and raised a farmer’s daughter and now living my dream as the rancher’s wife and mother of 3, I’ve been living the rural life for a little while now. However, I’ll be the first to tell you it isn’t always easy, and I hardly ever get it right. In between ranching and chasing kids, I love coffee, gardening, quilting and...

Hi @firstname! Today’s email from me is a little more personal. I was looking back through my journal that I've keep my ideas in over the last 2 years as one does when planning something big (like a retreat!) and found an entry that I wrote in January of 2023 and I wanted to share it with you: "I want to become a life coach for rural women. I want to help them reach their full potential and thrive in their roles on the farm and ranch. Rural women are the foundation of the farm and ranch. They...

Dear fellow woman of the land, I get it. The early mornings, the late nights, the meals thrown together between chores. The endless to-do list that never seems to shrink. The weight of keeping everything running—on the farm, in the home, for your family. You give so much of yourself to everyone and everything else… but when’s the last time you did something just for you? That’s exactly why I created Soul Strength. Imagine stepping away from the daily grind for a weekend surrounded by women...
